Adventure Play is a program that is run throughout the Northern Suburbs of Launceston. It provides a diverse range of new and novel activities for young people and will help assist with building healthy attachments, develop their skills and resilience, learn to manage stress and work to change long held beliefs about themselves. The program is informed by Australian Childhood Foundation trauma informed recommendations and models from adventure therapy that together suggest that movement, balance and play are essential and that safe social groups, safe experiences of the natural environment and simple adventure-based activities can be used as part of a process to develop positive outcomes for young people.
Participants are young people who are disengaged or at risk of being disengaged from schools and are referred to the program as required. With the selected participants, the program staff will have conversations surrounding brain physiology responses to stress and strategies to help deal with those situations
